Reiki & Attunement FAQ

Over the next few months, I will be hosting Reiki attunement classes at Light House Spiritual Center in Mooresville, North Carolina. Below is a list of frequently asked questions about Reiki and the attunement process. I would love for you to contact me with any questions you have. If you haven't experienced Reiki, or would like to connect with me personally before joining one of m

y classes, you can schedule a personal Reiki session or a distance Reiki session (remote). And of course I would be very excited for you to join me in stepping onto the healer's path at one of the following classes:

Reiki Level I: Saturday, April 25, 2020 1 - 6pm

Reiki Level I FOR KIDS: Saturday, May 16, 2020 10 am - 3pm

Reiki Level II: Saturday, June 13, 2020 1 - 6pm

Reiki Level III: Saturday, July 25, 1 - 6pm

What is Reiki?

Pronounced "RAY-key", the word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force ene

rgy." This spiritual healing art with Japanese roots, connects you to life force energy through the laying on of hands by the practitioner and provides energetic support for mind, body, and spirit. Reiki helps the body remember what it feels like to be in its natural state (parasympathetic dominance). By helping relax the body and the central nervous system, Reiki helps create the optimal environment for healing, which only happens in a relaxed or non-stressed state.

My Reiki path

I was attuned to Reiki Level I in 2012 after a few years of experiencing "hot hands" when I prayed with and on other people. I pursued a Reiki I attunement, or training, with absolutely no intent on practicing Reiki on anyone other than my family and friends. I enjoyed the results from the Reiki I attunement very much, so a month later pursued a Reiki Level II training. Six months later I received my Reiki Level III Master/Teacher training and within a year I began offering services professional as a Reiki practitioner.

Do I have to do all the Reiki levels?

No, you do not. Many are very happy to be attuned to Reiki Level I to help them become more balanced physically and emotionally, to help them elevate their intuition or inner knowing, and to aid others in balancing their energy and releasing dis-ease. If you want to continue your Reiki training, I am happy to help guide you. If you don't wish to do so, that's cool too!

Why do I have to be attuned?

Reiki flows through us all. Undergoing an attunement "turns on the light and allows you to conduct the flow of energy." Unlike other healing arts, Reiki is passed from master to student through an attunement ritual that afterwards allows the student to connect to the universal Reiki source. The attunement allows you to become a vessel of Reiki energy and to be able to move Reiki energy for yourself

and others. You can read and learn about Reiki, the hand positions, and the attunement; but until you have been attuned to channel Reiki, you cannot truly practice Reiki.

What happens during the Reiki attunement?

Before the attunement, the Reiki Master will educate the student on the history and pricipals of Reiki. During the attunement, the Reiki Master will guide you through a group meditation and perform an attunement ritual that involves lightly touching the student's hands, top of head and shoulders. The student is fully clothed and sitting up right in a chair among other students. After the attunement, the students will practice hand positions and giving Reiki treatments to each other as a group.

What does it feel like to get an attunement?

Receiving a Reiki attunement can be a powerfully moving experience. Your energetic pathways are opened and aligned by your Reiki Master, which allows the Reiki energy to flow freely through your body to impact your health and the health of others.

The feeling of a Reiki attunement is a personal one, but students often report that they feel a lightening of their body and tingling from their head to their toes as the Reiki energy pathways are opened. Often, an attunement can enhance other energetic healing and channeling pathways. Students report that after receiving an attunement they had increased intuitive awareness, and enhances any innate psychic sensitivity.

Can I fail a Reiki attunement?

In short, no. Provided a qualified Reiki Master carries out the attunement process with you, it is not possible to fail a Reiki cou

rse or to not have the energy response after an attunement. You will be able to channel Reiki, but you may or may not necessarily feel anything, at least at first. Reiki, like all things, takes practice.

How do you prepare for an attunement?

Opening an energetic pathway is no light matter, and while it’s not strictly necessary to do anything in order to prepare to receive a Reiki attunement, most students choose to reconnect with their own spiritual practice before their attunement, to heighten the overall effects of the attunement and maximize its transformative power. It is recommended to do a 3-day cleanse before your attunement which involves to avoid eating heavy foods, fast food, processed food, and to limit or eliminate caffeine, sugar, tobacco or alcohol. One should also make a conscious effort to release negative emotions, such as anger or jealousy and reduce stressful situations leading up the attunement. These preparations will help you be more balanced and ready to accept the spiritual transformation.

Does an attunement need to be renewed?

No. Once you have been attuned to Reiki, the Reiki energy will flow through you for the rest of your life. Your ability to channel and move Reiki energy remains with you, as the gift of Reiki follows you and helps you for the rest of your life. However, as with any gift, if you do not use it, it will become stale. Practice will help keep the energy flowing.

What happens after the training?

For the full effect of the Reiki attunement to settle into your body, you will need to practice daily self-treatment for a minim

um of 21 days. This can easily be done from your home while sitting in a comfortable chair for about 30 minutes each session. During this time you can also practice with your new gift on your family and friends. Their feedback will be very useful for you to understand how you are now able to move Reiki energy through your own body and others'.

Can children be attuned to Reiki too?

Yes! Reiki is an extraordinary gift for every child to know.Gandhi once said, ""If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children."  Children have a natural sense and awareness of healing energy. It is very easy for them to learn Reiki. In a Reiki I training, children will get in touch with subtle energy and learn simple ways to use Reiki.  They will receive tools to empower their journey of healing themselves and others in workshops created specifically for them. The attunement and training uses age-appropriate materials, art projects, and hands-on activities designed to be fun and engaging for children who have awareness of their energetic being and would like to explore their innate potential in a nurturing, supportive environment.  With their permission, children will receive an initiation to Reiki Level I.

Reiki Level I for kids is perfect for children 5 to 12, depending on the maturity and attention span of the child. I require that for

the child to be attuned, at least one parent or caregiver must have previously been attuned to Reiki Level I to be able to assist the child through the first 21 days post attunement. Children 13 and older can participate in the adult Level I class with their caregiver or parent, again, depending on the maturity level of that specific child.
